I Got Married On The Interstate
© 2009 – BobbyJoe
[VERSE 1]
I met her on the on-ramp, man, her tail lights looked so fine
Her blinker and my lonely heart were keeping perfect time
I knew I had to have that girl as we merged on Twenty-four
So I shifted down and then I pushed the pedal to the floor
Well, I pulled up beside her Vette and yelled "I love you, hon"
She let me know in sign language I was her number one
Our future raced right through my head with every passing mile
From first kiss to engagement ring, then we walked down the aisle
[CHORUS]
I got married on the interstate on the way to work today
It was high speed heaven as I drove like hell and tried not to tailgate
We zoomed right through our honeymoon, four kids and ten sweet years
I got married on the interstate and divorced at Exit Eight
[VERSE 2]
I could tell she wanted me by the wild look in her eyes
The way she weaved across four lanes said she was the teaser type
But blue lights in my rearview brought our dream life to a stop
You should've heard the laughter when I told those stupid cops
[CHORUS]
I got married on the interstate on the way to work today
It was high speed heaven as I drove like hell and tried not to tailgate
We zoomed right through our honeymoon, four kids and ten sweet years
I got married on the interstate and divorced at Exit Eight
[BRIDGE]
The judge said "what's your story, why so heavy on the gas"
I said "Life is fleeting and you've got to live it fast"
[CHORUS]
I got married on the interstate on the way to work that day
It was high speed heaven as I drove like hell and tried not to tailgate
We zoomed right through our honeymoon, four kids and ten sweet years
I got married on the interstate and divorced at Exit Eight
Yeah, I got married on the interstate and divorced at Exit Eight
Now, here is my reply:
I Found My Future Wife Today
© 2009 – Alan Shephard/Ed Leavitt
[VERSE 1]
I was parked behind the billboard, when this car went screaming past
My radar lit up ninety-five, so I quickly floored the gas
Ahead I saw a red Corvette, followed closely by a van
Smoke poured out from the tailpipe, I’m surprised it even ran
Well, I pulled behind the piece of junk, and turned the blue lights on
The Corvette driver waved to me and in no time she was gone
I walked up to the window just as the left rear tire went flat
I yelled what the hell is going on, and he yelled at me right back
[CHORUS]
I found my future wife today here on the interstate
The wild look in her blue eyes said honey don’t be late
I could tell I made her heart race by the way she hit the gas
I found my future wife today and she was gone in a flash
[VERSE 2]
I wrote the guy a citation, and then I had his junker towed
I parked back in my hiding spot and looked on up the road
When that Corvette passed by me with a pickup on her butt
I flashed my lights on once again and walked up to that truck
And he said….
[CHORUS]
I found my future wife today here on the interstate
The wild look in her blue eyes said honey don’t be late
I could tell I made her heart race by the way she hit the gas
I found my future wife today and she was gone in a flash
[BRIDGE]
I jumped in my car, sped up the road, and pulled over that red car
Her blonde hair and her sweet perfume handcuffed my heart
[CHORUS]
I found my future wife today here on the interstate
The wild look in her blue eyes said honey don’t be late
I could tell I made her heart race by the way she hit the gas
I found my future wife today and she was gone in a flash
Yeah, I found my future wife today, and she said kiss my……..

Country – Slow
[VERSE 1]
I like walking through the mall
Do that a lot since you’ve been gone
The stores remind me so much of you
So I don’t feel so all alone
I head straight for the candle shop
Stand out front with my eyes closed
People walk by me and they just stare
As the visions go up my nose
[CHORUS]
Vanilla Cream, burning by the bed
Memories of you, filling up my head
They say I’m crazy, standing here like this
But I can taste it, the memory of your kiss
And Vanilla Cream
[VERSE 2]
I know the people look at me
But I really couldn’t care
I need to keep your memory strong
Pay no attention to their stares
So I head to the department store
Go straight over to the cologne
Stand there searching through all the samples
But only one smell takes me home
[CHORUS]
Vanilla Cream, coming from our bed
Memories of you, filling up my head
They say I’ve lost it, standing here like this
I can’t just toss it, the memory of your kiss
And Vanilla Cream
[BRIDGE]
When I’m feeling really brave, I’ll grab an ice cream cone
Your scent is what I crave, as I sit quietly by your stone
[CHORUS]
Vanilla Cream, burning by the bed
Memories of you, your scent it fills my head
I miss you so much, it’s the only way
I can feel your touch, make it through my day
Vanilla Cream, coming from our bed
Memories of holding you, it’s all that fills my head
I miss you so much, and this is the only way
I can feel your touch, make it through my day

The Fun We Used To Have
© 2009 – Alan Shephard
[VERSE 1]
I found my high school yearbook
Scanned through all my old friends
Thought of the things we used to do
And the trouble that we got in
If my old man had ever known
Just half of what we’d done
I wouldn’t be sitting here today
Hell, I’d still be on the run
[CHORUS]
The fun we used to have
Doing absolutely nothing
Acting like we were tough
And thinking we were something
The trouble we got into
And we would only laugh
What I wouldn’t give, if I could only relive
The fun we used to have
[VERSE 2]
Like that time we got pulled over
For driving down railroad tracks
Hauled us all over to the station
Put us in a room out back
Decided that no matter what
We would have the last laugh
When they finally told us to go home
We had their fingerprint pad
[CHORUS]
The fun we used to have
Doing absolutely nothing
Acting like we were tough
And thinking we were something
The trouble we got into
And we would only laugh
What I wouldn’t give, if I could only relive
The fun we used to have
[BRIDGE]
Now I’m older and wiser, and I have kids of my own
They think that I’m too stupid, there’s no way I could have known
[CHORUS]
The fun that they just had
Doing absolutely nothing
Acting like they were tough
And thinking they were something
The trouble they got into
I would probably have a calf
But what I wouldn’t give, if I could only relive
The fun we used to have
But what I wouldn’t give, if I could only relive

I’ll Write You Back
© 2009 – Alan Shephard
[V1]
I was looking through the attic and found your letter,
The one you wrote me many years ago,
Where you promised me that life would get much better,
You loved me and couldn’t wait til we grew old.
Isn’t it funny how things change as the years go by,
One day you left me sad and by myself,
Even though your old note is now yellowed and dry,
I think doing what it says just might help.
[CHORUS]
I’ll write you back, back into my life,
Back to when you lived here, as my loving wife,
I’ll take pen and paper, rewrite the sands of time,
I’ll write you back, back when you were mine.
[V2]
I’ll start off by telling you, what my life has been like,
Every day since you went away,
The birthdays, weddings, and those morning hikes,
Old memories I think will never fade.
I’ll probably have to write, more than just one note,
Don’t think that I can fit it on one page,
They mean so much to me, those loving words you wrote,
It helps to keep me sane, and fight against the rage.
[CHORUS]
I’ll write you back, back into my life,
Back to when you lived here, as my loving wife,
I’ll take pen and paper, rewrite the sands of time,
I’ll write you back, back when you were mine.
[BRIDGE]
Now I’ll take this letter, set it here against your grave,
Next to all the flowers, and the memories I've saved.
[CHORUS]
I’ll write you back, back into my life,
Back when you were living, as my loving wife,
I’ll take this pen and paper, as I always do,
I’ll write you back, as my loving wife.

We’re Saving Country Music (One Song At ATime)
© 2010 – Alan Shephard/Ronnie Lee Hurst
[VERSE 1]
We come from the hills of Kentucky,
And the rocky shores of Maine,
Grew up along the Mississippi,
And the flat Nebraskan plains.
Fed on the formula of Ferlin,
Sung to sleep at night by Merle,
Spent our teenage years with Hank Jr,
Back when George and Tammy owned the world.
And now….
[CHORUS]
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time,
Might not all have steel guitars,
Or sing with perfect rhymes,
We’re out there on the road each day,
The stage most every night,
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time.
[VERSE 2]
Some say it don’t sound like Country,
This is not the way it’s done,
But I can honestly assure you,
We know right where we came from.
The man in black is guiding the pencil,
When we sit down to write another song,
And coming from the back of a lonesome Cadillac,
The melodies come out strong.
[CHORUS]
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time,
Might not all have steel guitars,
Or sing with perfect rhymes,
We’re out there on the road each day,
The stage most every night,
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time.
[BRIDGE]
This might not be the good times,
We won’t make the world go away,
As long as we’re not in San Quentin,
Through us you can hear them say.
[CHORUS]
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time,
Might not all have steel guitars,
Or sing with perfect rhymes,
We’re out there on the road each day,
The stage most every night,
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time.
We’re saving Country music,
One song at a time.

Country – Slow Tempo – Male/Female
[VERSE 1]
There is a tree down by the river,
Underneath we’d hug and kiss,
Make plans for our life together,
Funny what became of it.
I tried so hard to make us a life,
But there was always nothing left,
So finally I had to realize,
Honey, I tried my best.
[CHORUS]
I tried my best,
Gave all I had,
To give to you,
You gotta laugh,
To think of us,
All we’ve been through,
To end this way,
You see it too,
I’ve earned a rest,
I tried my best.
[VERSE 2]
Remember all the different jobs,
And the places we’ve moved to,
It never seemed to quite work out,
Least what we meant it to.
But…
[CHORUS]
I tried my best,
Gave all I had,
To give to you,
You gotta laugh,
To think of us,
All we’ve been through,
To end this way,
You see it too,
I’ve earned a rest,
I tried my best.
[BRIDGE]
After all these years together, I wind up in this place,
Cancer in my body, tears running down your face.
[CHORUS]
I tried my best,
Gave all I had,
To give to you,
You gotta laugh,
To think of us,
All we’ve been through,
To end this way,
You see it too,
I’ve earned a rest,
I tried my best.
I hope you know how much I love you,
I tried my best,
Now I will rest.

BITE ME! (Version 3)
© 2009 – Alan Shephard
[VERSE 1]
I’ve been stuck in this dead end job, for almost thirteen years,
Go to work and back every day, but today I saw it clear,
When I got to work this morning, boss was in a rotten mood,
I walked right back out the door, and told him that he should……
[CHORUS]
Bite Me!
I don’t really need this stress
Might Be!
I’m done living in this mess
Right-ly!
Heading on to better things
Night-ly!
In your sleep you’ll hear me sing
Bite Me!
Might Be!
Bite Me!
[VERSE 2]
Went home and told my wife that I had to find other work,
I’d told the boss just what I thought, and that he was a jerk,
She screamed at me I was insane, idiot you’ve lost your head,
I yelled back as I went outside, and you know what I said.
[CHORUS]
Bite Me!
I don’t really need this stress
Might Be!
I’m done living in this mess
Right-ly!
Heading on to better things
Night-ly!
In your sleep you’ll hear me sing
Bite Me!
Might Be!
Bite Me!
[VERSE 3]
Headed down to my favorite bar, Congressman was on TV,
Said it’s my duty to go to work, they need more money from me,
So we can give to all of those, who don’t pay in their dues,
Well listen up Mr. Senator, because I have two words for you.
[CHORUS]
Bite Me!
I really don’t need the stress
Might Be!
I’m done living in this mess
Right-ly!
Heading on to better things
Night-ly!
Out of work you’ll hear me sing
Bite Me!
I really don’t need the stress
Might Be!
I’m done living in this mess
Right-ly!
Heading on to better things
Night-ly!
In your sleep you’ll hear me sing
Bite Me!
Might Be!
Bite Me!

Slow Version - Music by Nick Cross
Fast Version - Music by Nick Cross
{VERSE 1}
I come in here because I like your company
Any time of day, you are always here
You listen to me as I tell my story
And watch me as I cry my lonely tears
You never interrupt when I am speaking
You always have a friendly ear to lend
It’s not a problem if you have to leave though
The bartender sets me up another friend
{CHORUS}
Hey Bud, my old friend, slide on over
Sit on the bar and tell me what you see
A lonely fool you say, who pushed his wife away
Oh Bud, you’re so much wiser than me
{VERSE 2}
You always know how to make me feel better
I see all the answers written in your foam
When I’m really feeling down I throw a party
And take a twelve pack of your friends back to my home
{CHORUS}
Hey Bud, my old friend, slide on over
Sit on the bar and tell me what you see
A lonely fool you say, who pushed his wife away
Oh Bud, you’re so much wiser than me
{BRIDGE}
That guy Jack and his friend Jim, they have too much bite
But your family is real nice, especially Bud Light
{CHORUS}
Hey Bud, my old friend, slide on over
Sit on the bar and tell me what you see
A lonely fool you say, who pushed his wife away
Oh Bud, you’re so much wiser than me
Hey bud, you’re so much wiser than me

ONE MORE PAGE TO GO (Version 2)
© 2009 – Alan Shephard
[VERSE 1]
I walked in the front door, threw my keys down on the desk
Looked through a pile of mail, saved some and tossed the rest
Grabbed a beer from the fridge, then sat down on the couch
Turned on the reading lamp, and I pulled her letter out
The one that she left me, when she walked away
[CHORUS]
Page one is where she tells me why she left me alone
Page two says she’s surprised that I really didn’t know
Page three I never get through, not sure if I ever can
I’ve still got one more page to go
[VERSE 2]
Said she just couldn’t live with a man that drank too much
And never was around at night with a soft and loving touch
She told me that she told me, but I just never heard
So on those sheets of paper, she wrote down the words
The words that she left me, when she walked away
[CHORUS]
Page one is where she tells me why she left me alone
Page two says she’s surprised that I really didn’t know
Page three I never get through, not sure if I ever can
I’ve still got one more page to go
[BRIDGE]
It’s only been a year now, and I can clearly see
A turning point is coming, the ending of page three
[CHORUS]
Page one is where she tells me why she left me alone
Page two says she’s surprised that I really didn’t know
Page three I never get through, not sure if I ever can
I’ve still got one more page to go
I’ve still got one more page to go

[VERSE 1]
Ev’ry year it happens
Exactly at this time
They appear from out of nowhere
Come here to spend their dime
There’s license plates from ev’rystate
Unbelievable congestion
And ev’ry year as it draws near
I ask the same old question
[CHORUS]
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
They’re right there in front of me
Standing there looking stupid
For all the world to see
I think a load of buckshot
Would really suit ‘em
If it’s tourist season, then
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
[VERSE 2]
Here they come again
Those damn old leaf peepers
The elderly wearing sweat pants
And orthopedic sneakers
They look so sweet, standing in the street
With their Kodaks in their hand
With arthritic joints, they stand and point
Lord, I just don’t understand
[CHORUS]
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
They’re right there in front of me
Standing there looking stupid
For all the world to see
I think a load of buckshot
It would really suit ‘em
If it’s tourist season, then
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
[BRIDGE]
I bought a new Weatherbee, and ammo,Lord knows I have a lot
Just a couple hundred yards up that ski slope, Oh man, what agreat shot
[CHORUS]
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
They’re right here in front of me
Standing there looking clueless
For all the world to see
I think a load of buckshot
Would really suit ‘em
If it’s tourist season, then
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
Man, if it’s tourist season, then
Why can’t I just shoot ‘em?
Hey, look at that one over there
That’s at least an eight or nine pointer

How did I get here?
Among this tangled wreck
My friends and I were drinking
I can’t move my neck
I told him to slow down
Those guardrails were too near
The sound of that awful crash
How did I get here?
How did I get here?
They told me not to go
All these bright lights overhead
Thought they’d never know
Did someone just say coma?
I will not live they fear
I want Mom to take me home
How did I get here?
(INSTRUMENTAL)
How did I get here?
What is that soothing light?
I’m feeling really cold
This just isn’t right
Is that me lying there?
People shedding tears
Tell my Mom how much I care
How did I get here?
How did I get here?
I guess now that it’s too late
Send a message to my Dad
I’ll stand right here and wait
Sorry I didn’t listen
I’m sorry I had that beer
What I’d give to be home now
How did I get here?

I saw her first when I was twelve
The one who'd be my wife
She didn't know that I existed
But she became my life
On that day it began to grow
A love so real and true
I had to make her notice me
Daddy, just what should I do
And he said,
CHORUS
Don't you ever give up son
No matter how long it takes
If it takes a hundred years
That's what makes it great
When you have a goal in mind
Although I know it's tough
Set your sights, buckle in tight
But don't you ever give up
Seven years later down the road
My big chance finally came
Just one kiss upon her sweet lips
Made her wanna take my name
We made the plans for our special day
As I stood and said "I do"
In my head, what my father said
His words they rang so true
CHORUS
Don't you ever give up son
No matter how long it takes
If it takes a hundred years
That's what makes it great
When you have a goal in mind
Although I know it's tough
Set your sights, buckle in tight
But don't you ever give up
BRIDGE
As time went by we had a son
He came to me, said she's the one
As Mama listened through the back door screen
I said "son, here's what my dad told me"
CHORUS
Don't you ever give up son
No matter how long it takes
If it takes a hundred years
That's what makes it great
When you have a goal in mind
Although I know it's tough
Set your sights, buckle in tight
But don't you ever give up

When I got out of high school I decided on my career
I'd sit and write some country songs for all the world to hear
Started hanging out with the old pros so I wouldn't crash and burn
Then one old man took me aside, said here's what you
You gotta have a....
[CHORUS]
Heart full of heartache
For you to write a country song
You gotta make people laugh and cry
And make them wanna sing along
It's not a job for a youngster
Or those with a silver spoon
You need a heart full of heartache
For you to write a country tune
So I gave up that silly notion, went and got me a degree
Married an Australian model, I was happy as I could be
As time went on I wondered about my long lost career
When that idea came in my head, these words were all I’d hear
You gotta have a....
[CHORUS]
Heart full of heartache
For you to write a country song
You gotta make people laugh and cry
And make them wanna sing along
It's not a job for a youngster
Or those with a silver spoon
You need a heart full of heartache
For you to write a country tune
{BRIDGE]
My darling wife walked out on me, said I was a disgrace
When the crying was all over, a smile came upon my face
Cuz I knew I had a....
[CHORUS 2]
Heart full of heartache
Now I can write a country song
I can make people laugh and cry
And make them wanna sing along
It's not a job for a youngster
Or those with a silver spoon
I got a heart full of heartache
So I can write a country tune
Yeah, I got a heart full of heartache
So I sat and wrote this country tune

HARLEY DAVID'S SON (Version 2)
© Alan Shephard 2009
The only seat in the crowded park was next to an old man
Who looked to be about seventy, judging by the wrinkles in his
We talked awhile that old man and I, about our lives and our family
I told him that my name was Harley, and he listenly more intently
I said, "David was my fathers name, and he's the one who named me.
Then he left my mother all alone, with no one to help raise me"
Told him when my mothers time had
I found a letter from my dad, and inside the note it said
CHORUS
I couldn't be there with you, so I gave you an American name
Which stands for strength and honesty, and legendary fame
Patriotism and bravery, stand tall and don't ever run
Never forget from where you came, you're Harley, David's son
The old man started speaking as he wiped away a tear
"I've fought in very distant lands and never felt no fear
The things they made me do there had me fearing for my life
They threatened those around me, even my kids and my wife."
He said as time ticks away he finds it harder to be brave
And there's some days he just can't wait to climb into his grave
As he spoke thoughts of my dad entered into my mind
And I began to clearly see that letter line by line
CHORUS
I couldn't be there with you, so I gave you an American name
Which stands for strength and honesty, and legendary fame
Patriotism and bravery, stand tall and don't ever run
Never forget from where you came, you're Harley, David's son
BRIDGE
He said son, my name is David and I always knew somehow
That one day I would find you and I guess that time is now
CHORUS
I knew I couldn't be there with you, so I gave you a unique name
That would help my quest to find you when that day finally came
Patriotism and bravery weren't enough, I had to run
But I never forgot about you, you're Harley, David's son
A true American hero, Harley, David's son

LOVE CAN’T HIDE IN THE DARKNESS
© 2009 - Alan Shephard
[VERSE 1]
I can not see your pretty face,
But I know that you are there,
I can smell your sweet perfume,
Drifting gently in the air.
[CHORUS]
Love can’t hide in the darkness,
Somewhere out there is my destiny,
No, love can’t hide in the darkness,
I hear your heart calling,
Saying you’re the one for me.
[VERSE 2]
Standing up here on this stage,
In front of all my fans,
The only thing I really want,
Is someone to hold my hand.
[CHORUS]
Love can’t hide in the darkness,
Somewhere out there is my destiny,
No, love can’t hide in the darkness,
I hear your heart calling,
Saying you’re the one for me.
[VERSE 3]
Town after town I look for you,
The perfect love that’s oh so true,
I can hear your heart, sending love to me,
Please turn up the lights, so that I may see.
[CHORUS]
Love can’t hide in the darkness,
Somewhere out there is my destiny,
No, love can’t hide in the darkness,
I hear your heart calling,
Saying you’re the one for me.

[VERSE 1]
I was only eight or so when I first picked up a mike
Singing into that Fisher-Price was really quite a sight
I'd perform for all to see, right there in the living room
Ev'ry single evening, after I got home from school
Throughout all my teenage years, I'd look for chances to sing
All the while dreaming, about what my future would bring
Was off to college, then a job, moving on with my life
But all those dreams inside my head, they refused to die
[CHORUS]
So with nothing but a laptop and a ten dollar mike
I'd sing Karaoke on the net every night
And the people started saying "Man, you're good"
I sang and played at every single bar
Hoping someday I could take it real far
Because I always knew that I should
[VERSE 2]
Now one night after another, I'd stand up on that stage
Doing all those cover tunes, and staying out real late
I watched my life just tick away, an hourglass of sand
I had to move things forward, I had to take a stand
I asked a good friend to help me move my life along
Together we tried everything, but something still was wrong
I wasn't making progress, I felt the end was near
I needed to do something, so the right people would hear
[CHORUS]
So with nothing but a laptop and a ten dollar mike
I'd sing Karaoke on the net every night
And the people started saying "Man, you're good"
I sang and played at every single bar
Hoping someday I could take it real far
Because I always knew that I should
[BRIDGE]
And then one sunny day, that call it finally came
And now hear I stand, and everybody knows my name
[CHORUS]
Now I'm up on this stage with a thousand dollar mike
I sing all my songs to the crowds every night
They sing back to me like I always thought they would
I travel and I play everywhere I can
Nothing like being out here with your fans
Like I always knew that I should
[TAG]
But out of all my fans theres really only one
Whose opinion matters most when it's all said and done
My beautiful little girl, she tells me that I'm good
She says, "Daddy, I always knew you could"
